Radon Testing in Westchester County, NY
Radon is a cancer causing gas that can infiltrate your home from the ground through cracks in the foundation, penetrations where pipes pass through your foundation, and through the interface between your foundation and floor slab. It is generated by the natural breakdown of Uranium that is found in all rock, soil, and water, but here in the Northeast, is mostly generated from the underground bedrock.
A radon test kit is placed either in the basement of the home (if it has a basement), or in a living room or bedroom. It should be left undisturbed for a minimum of 48-72 hours before it is picked up by one of our inspectors. Once picked up, results of the test are generally available within one to two weeks with the official results to be provided to our client as an addendum to our report. The test is not extremely intrusive, but windows should be left shut while the test kit is in-place.
